In speech-language therapy, we may work on a variety of things including:
Articulation/Phonology: producing specific speech sounds; rules/patterns for producing speech sounds
Understanding language: following directions, categorizing, understanding similarities and differences, making inferences
Using language: describing, using verb tenses, using pronouns, making predictions
Social language: understanding the "hidden rules" of social interaction, using language to interact with peers and adults, negotiating
AAC (augmentative and alternative communication): helping nonverbal students communicate using pictures, symbols, gesture/sign language, high-tech devices
Fluency: helping students who stutter learn strategies to help with smoother speech
