Tips for Parents & Caregivers
Talk- Your child might have worries about returning to school or things s/he is hearing about things happening in the world. Create time for talking in different ways, such as going on a walk together or baking together – there may be less pressure in these circumstances than when sitting face-to-face. Check out resources for emotional health here.
Sleep routine – help your child maintain healthy sleep habits even though school is not in session.
Model coping strategies you use when feeling stressed such as talking with friends, exercising or using breathing techniques. If appropriate, you can share your own worries and feelings about returning to work and ways you are managing these feelings.
Be positive – things will reopen! It might be helpful to talk about things your child is looking forward to, and to remind them that this period of shut down was a temporary circumstance.
