Reminder! Newly eligible employees have 90 days to choose their retirement plan!
Welcome to Auburn School District!
One of the many great things about working for ASD is our retirement pension plan with the Department of Retirement Systems (DRS). To be eligible for DRS you must be hired into an eligible position. As a new hire, who is also a new member of DRS, you will have a choice to elect either plan 2 or plan 3. This election is irrevocable and will apply to your retirement under the DRS Systems. You have 90 days to make your choice, so take your time and research which plan is best for you! If you do not make a choice, you will default into the plan 2. If you have questions, please contact Raquel Torres, ASD Retirement Specialist in the Payroll Department or email Retirement@auburn.wednet.edu
The DRS serves a diverse population of more than 330,000 Washington public employees, including firefighters, teachers and police officers. DRS also administers the Deferred Compenstion Program (DCP).
Remember your membership in either plan is permanent. Even if you separate from Auburn School District, you will still be a member of this plan at any other public service employment.
A retirement plan is a mandatory benefit for working with a Washington public service. Both plans 2 and 3 offer a lifetime pension benefit. The amount of your pension will depend on how many years you work in a public service and your salary. Both plans offer an early retirement starting at age 55. Full retirement age for both plans is 65.
For initial enrollment, you will need to complete the Plan Enrollment Form and turn it into your payroll office. The Beneficiary Designation Form can be completed on paper or online through your DRS account.
