APUSH

Welcome to AP United States History. This course surveys US history from pre-Columbian to the present. From now until your May AP exam, you will learn US's political, economic, religious, social, intellectual, and artistic history. Although this course is limited in its worldview (the United States, as opposed to the whole world), we will understand how the US's evolution from an isolated new nation to one of the world's great superpowers had global impacts.

We will study APUSH in 9 time periods:

• Period 1: 1491-1607 (pre-Columbian and exploration)
• Period 2: 1607-1754 (European colonization and interactions with Native Americans)
• Period 3: 1754-1800 (forming a new nation)
• Period 4: 1800-1848 (growing in size, building strength and stability)
• Period 5: 1844-1877 (the Civil War)
• Period 6: 1865-1898 (The Gilded Age)
• Period 7: 1890-1945 (the Progressive Era, Imperialism, WWI, Great Depression, and WWII)
• Period 8: 1945-1980 (the Cold War, Civil Rights Movements)
• Period 9: 1980-now (Modern US, technology, environment)
