Lea Hill Mustangs have PRIDE - Positive attitude, Respect, Integrity, Dependability, Effort
What is Social and Emotional Learning and why is it important?
Social and emotional learning (SEL) is the process through which children and adults understand and manage emotions, set and achieve positive goals, feel and show empathy for others, establish and maintain positive relationships, and make responsible decisions.
More than two decades of research demonstrates that education promoting social and emotional learning (SEL) gets results. The findings come from multiple fields and sources, including student achievement, neuroscience, health, employment, psychology, classroom management, learning theory, economics, and the prevention of youth problem behaviors. At Lea Hill Elementary, we support SEL by implementing the Second Step curriculum, select lessons from Kelso's Choice, teaching from the Zones of Regulation curriculum, school-wide Morning Meetings, and additional lessons on targeted social emotional skills that I design and teach as needed/requested.
