Being a Student Librarian in the Ilalko Library is very similar to having an adult job.  Fifth-grade students who are interested in the job fill out an application (complete with references from the student's grown ups and classroom teacher) and submit it to Mrs. Anderson.  Since there are limited positions available, Mrs, Anderson and Mrs. Foucher hire students based on their classroom behavior and teacher recommendations.

Once hired, Student Librarians are expected to find time to come to the library twice each week to maintain their shelves and tidy the library.  Much like a real job, if a Student Librarian is not performing all of their duties as expected, they know they could be fired and replaced.

There are perks to being a Student Librarian! Those students get to check out an additional book each week, spend extra time in the library, support our book fairs, and participate in the year-end party.  Mrs. Anderson and Mrs. Foucher LOVE having Student Librarians and know the library wouldn't be the same without them!
