The FitnessGram™ Pacer Test is a physical fitness test commonly used by schools and other organizations to assess an individual's aerobic capacity and endurance. The test is done by running back and forth between two markers 20 meters apart before a beep sounds, which signals the start of the next lap. The time between beeps starts at a slow pace, but progressively gets shorter, requiring the runner to run faster and faster to keep up with the pace.
The test continues until the second consecutive time a runner fails to complete a lap before the beep sound, indicating that they have reached their maximum aerobic capacity. The total number of laps that the runner is able to complete before ending the test is used to determine their aerobic capacity and fitness level.
The test can be challenging and requires both physical and mental stamina to complete, making it a popular assessment tool for fitness and exercise programs.

The image here shows the score sheet that we use at Chinook. Each row equates to a level (e.g. 1-7 = Level 1 and 8-15 = Level 2). Students have a partner complete this sheet while they run. Each time the partner runs across the gym (20 meters), they cross off the corresponding number on the paper. When their partner is finished running, they circle the last completed lap so that Mr. Roach can input the scores into WELNET. This program allows families to track their child's progress from elementary through high school.
