At the Auburn School District Pool, we pride ourselves on our supportive management team, flexible hours, and comprehensive training. The ASD Pool conducts Red Cross Lifeguarding and CPR/AED/First Aid trainings periodically.
Why should I work at the ASD Pool?
On top of dedicated, supportive management, flexible hours, and intentional training to prepare you for our facility and event positions, we are proud to offer $25.00 an hour for all new employees.
I am a student; can I still work at the ASD Pool?
Yes! A majority of our staff are current Auburn School District and local college students. In order to lifeguard with Red Cross, an individual must be 15 years old. The majority of our working hours operate outside of typical school hours. (We are student-athlete friendly!)
Can I work seasonally?
A portion of our staff work seasonally: we have yearly Fall, Winter, Spring, and Summer seasons. Swimming lessons are only offered during our Winter, Spring, and Summer seasons; lifeguarding shifts are offered year-round.
I'm already Lifeguard and CPR/AED/First Aid certified, but not through the American Red Cross.
Not a problem! If you are certified through an eligible program, you can take an equivalency course to transfer your training to the American Red Cross's practices. Reach out to our management team for more details.
I was Lifeguard and CPR/AED/First Aid certified, but my certificate has expired. Am I eligible?
Yes and no; if your certificate has expired by no more than 30 days, you may still take a Review course (~9 hour class) and, upon completion, obtain a valid certificate. If your certificate has expired by over 30 days, you must take a full Lifeguard and CPR/AED/First Aid course. No worries though - we teach both!
I want to exclusively work as a lifeguard.
Some people struggle with teaching swimming lessons, and that's okay! Just keep in mind that while our management works hard to create as many lifeguarding hours as we can justify, those tend to be the most competitive. At our facility, the program(s) with the greatest staffing opportunities are swimming lessons, as space for instruction positions are open to more than four staff at any given shift, so it's easiest for new staff to find more hours if they're willing to learn to teach swimming lessons.
I want to work swimming lessons, but I have partial commitments throughout this season. Can I still instruct?
We really prefer for our instructors to teach for the full season so our students can have the most consistent and quality instruction possible. For special circumstances, reach out to our management team - we're here to help!
