AAWS volunteers help individuals with disabilities participate in adaptive water sports in a safe, fun, and inclusive environment. Roles range from athlete support and dock assistance to boating, fishing, and event setup.

ADS offers volunteer opportunities across adaptive sports programs and events for individuals with physical, visual, and intellectual disabilities. Volunteers can support:
Arizona Heat programs and events
Team Mesa Adaptive Programs
Special events and annual competitions
Unified Partners (participate alongside athletes in Unified Sports®)
Volunteer Coaches (training provided, no prior experience required)
Event Volunteers (registration, scorekeeping, timing, staging, awards)
Shift lengths for events are typically around four hours.
Completion of a liability and media waiver (valid for one year)
Minors must have a parent/guardian signature
Contact ADS to be added to the volunteer database and receive updates
Sign up for opportunities through their designated registration platform

HCAS provides adaptive outdoor recreation across Arizona’s High Country, offering opportunities to support athletes of all abilities in winter and summer programs.
Assist with adaptive ski and snowboard lessons (bi-ski, mono-ski, 2/3/4-track, snowboard, ski bike, etc.)
Help with lift loading, equipment fitting, staging, and athlete support
Provide check-in and end-of-day assistance
Orientation and on-snow training provided; shadow shifts required
Support adaptive kayaking (shore and on-water assistance)
Assist with adaptive mountain biking and rock climbing
Help with events and outreach
Orientation and activity-specific training provided
Age 16+ (some roles require 18+)
Background check required for athlete-facing roles
Complete orientation and role-specific training
Participate in shadow shifts before independent assignments
Comfortable working outdoors (winter or summer conditions)
Typical shifts:
Winter: 3–4 hours
Summer: 2–3 hours
Experience is not required—training and ongoing support are provided.
