Atlantic High School is proud to be hosting schools for the SW District Large Group Speech Contest on Saturday, February 28. The following information will hopefully answer many of your questions. If you need assistance finding something on the day of the contest, please check with your school's coaches, one of our volunteers, or, if all else fails, stop in at the office. We will do our best to help you out.
Spectators and guests may park in either of the two parking lots in front of the High School.
There are two loading/unloading zones (marked in MAGENTA on the map) where you can drop people off before parking or pick them up before leaving. DO NOT PARK in or near any of these areas, however, as other people (including buses) will be using them throughout the day.
DO NOT PARK in the lot behind the school (marked in YELLOW on the map). That has been reserved for bus parking.
There is no admission fee for entry into the contest, however, there is a $5.00 suggested donation as recommended by the IHSSA for all family, supporters, and other guests who attend the competition.
We want a contest environment that is conducive to performing and allows each performer to be at their best, so when in and around the performance centers, please adhere to the following guidelines:
Limit conversation and volume in the hallways around and near the performance centers so that students and judges are not disturbed or distracted by noise from the hall.
Do not wear or bring any items (clothing, bags, hats, etc.) into the performance center that identify your (or any other) school. [Contestants are not identified by their school in performances. Judges do not know and are not supposed to know what school contestants are from. Wearing or bringing school-identifying items into the performance center may reveal this information to the judge.]
Do not enter a performance center if the door is closed or if a contestant is performing.
Do not disrupt or disturb either the contestant or the judge during a performance with noise, movement, gestures, etc.
Do not leave a performance center during a performance until after the contestant does. [At district-level competition, contestants usually receive some immediate verbal feedback from the judge. Please remain seated throughout the performance and feedback until after the contestant has been dismissed by the judge. Then allow the contestant to be the first to leave the performance center.]
Photography and video recording are strictly prohibited without advance permission from the IHSSA. See below for details.
Thank you in advance for your help in maintaining an environment in which performers can be at their best.
The schedule for the day is available HERE.
Remember that performance times are approximate. You are advised to ARRIVE EARLY to the performance center. We don’t want you to miss a performance that you want to see.
Check with your school's coach for your school’s schedule and/or your SCHOOL CODE. This will help you find the performances they want to see and when those performances are scheduled to begin.
Ratings will be posted HERE and in the Commons at AHS periodically throughout the day.
Results may not be available immediately, so, please, be patient. We'll get them processed and posted as soon as we can.
Photography and videotaping during any performance is strictly prohibited.
The high school gymnasium will serve as a home base for all students during the day. Students are not to have items that will cause headaches or disrupt the contest, such as basketballs, footballs, and loud music, etc.
The Atlantic Booster Club will be offering food and concessions all day in the Commons.
