Atlantic High School is proud to be hosting schools for the SW District Large Group Speech Contest on Saturday, February 28. The following information will hopefully answer many of your questions. Feel free to contact our site manager Trisha Koenig, at tkoenig@atlanticiaschools.org or her assistant, Mark Andersen, at mandersen@atlanticiaschools.org with any questions.
Please check-in your school in at the main office when you arrive. If you have any changes to report, please let us know when you check in. You will also need to submit the change form for the IHSSA, which is linked below.
If you need to drop a performance, change a title, drop or sub a student from your cast, please submit the change form below:
Buses may park in the back parking lot or next to the Track and Soccer field. These areas are indicated in YELLOW on the map. We want to leave the front parking lots open for spectators and smaller vehicles.
Students and coaches may be dropped off in front of the High School by the main entrance before parking the bus. These loading/unloading areas are marked in MAGENTA on the map. You may also pick students and coaches up in front of the building before leaving as well.
If we should have questionable weather, any delays or cancellations will be posted online and emailed to coaches. If we know in advance of any problems, we will contact you the day before the contest. You may also keep an eye on the IHSSA website.
School maps will be available to you in the office when you arrive. All coaches will receive one when you check in.
Additional copies may be requested on the day of the contest or in advance by contacting the site manager.
The performance centers will be clearly marked on the maps. We will be utilizing rooms in the entire school. We will have signage and volunteers helping with directions. However, we recommend you have your students find their performance centers when they arrive at the school to ensure they know where to go when it's time for them to perform.
Images of each performance center are available HERE.
PLEASE HELP US keep the hallways quiet by encouraging your performers and supporters to limit conversation and volume around and near the performance centers. We want a contest environment that is conducive to performing and allows each performer to be at their best. Thank you in advance for your assistance.
The high school gymnasium will serve as a home base for all students during the day. Please remind students not to bring items that will cause headaches or disrupt the contest, such as basketballs, footballs, and loud music, etc.
The schedule for the day is available HERE.
Remember that performance times are approximate. Please remind your students to let their parents and supporters know that this is the case. Encourage your performers and supporters to ARRIVE EARLY. We don’t want anyone missing a performance that they want to see.
We would advise you to make copies of your school’s schedule for your students and to tell your school's supporters your SCHOOL CODE. This will help them find the performances they want to see and when those performances are scheduled to begin.
Ratings will be posted HERE and in the Commons at AHS periodically throughout the day.
Results may not be available immediately, so, please, be patient. We'll get them processed and posted as soon as we can.
Comments sheets will NOT be provided to the judges by the host school.
Please remind spectators that photography and videotaping during any performance is strictly prohibited.
There is no admission fee for entry into the contest, however, there is a $5.00 suggested donation as recommended by the IHSSA for all family, supporters, and other guests who attend the competition. Coaches, performing students, and support staff (like bus drivers) do not need to provide any donation.
The Atlantic Booster Club will be offering food and concessions all day in the Commons.
