What is a sUAS Field Technician?

Someone capable of using and maintaining a small (0.55-55 lbs.) unmanned aircraft system for the safe collection of a variety of aerial data.

A field technician is capable of:

• Safely operating a drone weighing up to 55 pounds in the National Airspace System

• Performing routine system maintenance and basic repairs

• Record-keeping discipline

• Maintaining sensors

• Performing in the field data collection and validation

• Competently utilizing industry standard data post-processing software

It is intended as a recourse for faculty designing credit -bearing Small Unmanned Aircraft Systems/sUAS (drone) curricula. The site contains curricula, information regarding industry and regulatory expectations for entry-level technicians. The site includes an overview of the types of technology required for starting an academic program.
