In key stage four, pupils are supported in preparation for adulthood skills. They benefit from 1:1 careers advisor meetings as well as mock interviews for jobs and post-16 education. They also gain from workshops with the DWP to create CVs for their working life.
Our core subjects in the curriculum in key stage four are complemented by the Btec qualifications in vocational subjects that pupils are passionate about and are keen to continue on in their post-16 education. This directly prepares them for adult life and the world of work.
All pupils are supported throughout their transitions to their post-16 provision, through the strong bonds we have forged with our most local institution: Lincoln College. Our links offer individual touring of the campus; which enables our pupils to understand college life and the types of lessons that will be available to them. These tours are individually tailored to each pupil and their post 16 aspirations.
Pupils have made comments such as
“I didn’t realise how big it was”
“The facilities are amazing!”
Our pupils in key stage three undertake their curriculum through the REAL Projects which allows them to link their curriculum learning to their career aspirations.
Throughout the REAL Projects they learn:
how to become project managers
where subjects fit into the labour market
about the workforce through trips and visitors each term
how different subjects work together through cross curricular learning
KS3 pupils also take part in 'school jobs', job application and interviews for roles such as: e-safety ambassador, school council and librarian. This allows them to understand the process of getting into the job market and gives them experience to build upon and learn from, ready for post-16 and post-18 interviews and application processes.
Our pupils across all year groups undertake the Personal Development and Employability programme through the Prince’s Trust. This programme runs over all year groups and enables pupils to develop their skills under the following headings:
Career Planning
Interview Techniques
Planning for Personal Development
Participating in Exercise
Being Healthy
