SCIENTIFIC WRITING
Fr. William J. Schmitt, S.J. was a Jesuit priest who inspired excellence among all those he taught. Originally from the United States, he was ordained by the Jesuit Province of the Philippines before working as a Chemistry professor in the Ateneo Loyola Schools. In this role, he was lauded by former students for instilling the value of discipline, thru his famously high standards in scientific paper writing. In fact, anecdotes about how he would reject lab reports even over the smallest grammatical errors still circle today. Such high standards helped establish the Ateneo Chemistry department to be one of the most prestigious in the country. His contributions were eventually honored by the naming of the National Chemical Instrumentation Center (NCIC) in the Loyola Schools as Schmitt Hall.
