BEST RESEARCH PROJECT
In honor of Pope Francis’ active role in promoting the Sustainable Development Goals, the AJHS have centered the Research Congress on his call to sustainable living, adopting the title “AMDG for SDG”. Therefore, it can only be fitting that the group that produced the best research project in the RP Congress be given an award honoring the pope’s progressive initiatives.

ABOUT POPE FRANCIS
After his election to the papacy in 2013, Fr. Jorge Mario Bergoglio, SJ of Argentina became the first Jesuit pope of the Catholic Church, adopting the name Francis. In his youth, Pope Francis trained to be a chemical technician, working in laboratories before heeding the call to become a Jesuit. It is perhaps this scientific background that pushed Francis to take the needed progressive stances for the Catholic Church in the 21st Century. He issued a papal encyclical called the Laudato Si’, calling for Catholics and non-Catholics alike to take a more proactive role in climate change and sustainable development.
