The Testing and Research Office (TRO) of the Ateneo de Manila Junior High School shares and supports the vision and mission of the school of molding young men into future leaders who are Christ-centered, competent, with a well formed conscience and compassionate commitment. As the school’s assessment and study arm, the TRO supports the Ateneo Junior High School Guidance Department through online guidance test administration (intelligence, aptitude, personality and attitudinal testing), scoring and interpretation for students in the different grade levels; handles the entrance test administration to grade school graduates aspiring to enter the Ateneo de Manila High School; and generates local norms for the various tests given to students in order to establish a more relevant and reliable reference point in reporting profiles of student ability, achievement, personality and attitude.
With the TRO’s expansion into a research arm of the school in 1996, the office is also involved in the collation of data from students' annual evaluation of the different programs of the school as well as in the generation of its final reports. Moreover, it is also responsible for the creation and administration of various surveys and evaluation instruments that prove to be invaluable in the continuous improvement of various school services.
The TRO also conducts several statistical studies and analyses, mostly on students' general academic achievement, in order to provide the school with valuable data on benchmarking and student profile. The tests utilized for this purpose include both teacher-made tests and objective assessment instruments developed and purchased locally as well as abroad.
The TRO is likewise consulted by school administrators in matters pertaining to the development, revision and/or replacement of current evaluation instruments used in the school. Moreover, the TRO also makes purchase recommendations of updated evaluation instruments in the market in order to facilitate and improve the testing and research services.
The TRO is currently serving the Ateneo Junior High School (AJHS) and the Ateneo Senior High School (ASHS) . For the AJHS the TRO is under the Office of the Assistant Principal for Administration and is staffed by the Testing and Research Director, a Psychometrician, a Research Associate, an Office Staff and a Technical Assistant.
The following are the tests administered for this school year.
Belonging to a family of tests originally authored by Raymond B. Cattell and his colleagues, the Adolescent Personality Questionnaire (APQ) is a 205-item questionnaire appropriate for adolescents aged 11-22. It measures relevant variables related to educational adjustment, career exploration, personal or social difficulties, and passage through developmental tasks.
The 16PF Adolescent Personality Questionnaire (APQ) answers how young people see themselves, the impact of that view on their success in school, possible career choices, and ability to solve problems.
The APQ questionnaire includes three sections:
Personal Style (general personality traits such as self-control, rule-consciousness, emotional stability, apprehension, tension, self-reliance, tough-mindedness social skills, among others, and related to various school activities and work);
Problem Solving (a short measure of general learning ability); and
Work Activity (measures six career-interest variables based on the Holland Career Themes: Scientific, Artistic, Helping, Sales/Management and Procedural).
The MBTI aims to help the student understand his personality traits based on his personal preferences: extroversion – introversion, sensing – intuition, thinking – feeling, judgment – perception.
An understanding of the personality types in particular can help the students in many ways. Hopefully, it will help them recognize and appreciate their own unique gifts and those of others. It can help the students choose a career, deal with people and problems in life and understand their work habits.
Profiles Career Keys (PCK) assessment is a multi-faceted, multi-dimensional career assessment tool. PCK is comprised of three test batteries listed below and each battery measures six personal traits across three major foci for career development. These major foci are occupational interests, work importance values, and ability measures.
Career Ability Profiler - Measures ability in the areas of calculation, math reasoning, verbal ability, spatial reasoning, and keenness to details and matches those abilities to successful people in careers with similar abilities.
Work Importance Profiler - Measures the work importance factors required in the career and gives a percentage match to successful people in careers that have similar importance or behavioral patterns.
Career Interest Profiler - Measures interest in potential careers and gives a percentage job match based on successful people in careers that have a similar interest set.
Moreover, it utilizes cutting-edge, job match technology for a well-informed career exploration and selection. It suggests tracks, courses, and professions where a student is most likely to succeed in, where such suggestions are based on the profiles of successful people in their respective fields that have similar abilities, interests, and work values.
The test measures the effectivity of study methods employed, the motivation, and the attitude of the individual toward school activities. All these are considered important for success in studies its objective are:
To identify the study habits and attitudes of each student and to help him Improve on these to ensure success in his studies.
To identify the particular academic difficulties of each student that may require intervention.
To help the students understand their learning styles so that they may take full advantage of their learning styles.
