My name is Shelby Rae Wills and I am a master’s student at ASU’s Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication. I come from the field of education. I first taught in the Balkans and then in my home state of California for a combined five years. I recently decided to expand myself by educating the masses through journalism. I am a dedicated and passionate young professional. I ask great questions and make strong connections very quickly, enabling me to build relationships and adapt to new environments with ease. My unique perspective includes multicultural experience and dealing with sensitive subjects and vulnerable people in a compassionate and methodical way. In my short time in journalism I have covered drag shows, reactions to Roe v. Wade being overturned, light rail analysis, and political coverage for school projects.
I don’t have many published pieces yet due to my recent career switch, but the program at Cronkite is rigorous and intensive and I will be publishing more soon. I am well-versed in basic news writing including AP style and I have a newfound interest and talent for photojournalism.
