Starting in the 2025-2026 Catalog year (Fall 2025 and later admits), the Computer Science MCS program is now a Course-Based Master's (30 credit hours, no culminating event). This applies to MCS students (no concentration) as well as for students with concentrations in Cybersecurity and Big Data Systems. Students must maintain a minimum 3.0 for all GPAs and satisfy all course requirements of the program.
Students admitted prior to Fall 2025 who still have the portfolio requirement listed for their degree program may choose to follow the new catalog and "opt-out" of the portfolio requirement by completing the Portfolio Google form so advising is aware of your intentions to proceed with the new degree requirements.
The next step depends on if your iPOS is approved or not:
If your iPOS is APPROVED: Once added to the Portfolio canvas course, you will need to complete and upload the opt-out agreement form during your graduating semester. You will not have access to the Portfolio Canvas course until the semester in which you APPLY for graduation.
If your iPOS is NOT APPROVED: Advising will submit a change to move you to the 2025-2026 catalog and you will then submit your initial iPOS, which will have the new requirements programmed in. In this scenario, it is not necessary to complete the agreement form.
Students admitted Fall 2025 and later do not have the portfolio requirement and can disregard mentions of the portfolio in student resources and in their classes. Students can confirm whether they are admitted under the course-based program in the iPOS, in the top left corner:
