Reflection
I think two of the most important concepts I learned throughout the program are taking time to research the project to understand the target audience, and developing plans and practices to execute a project or assignment. Knowing and practicing these things specifically are very important skills to have that can translate into any situation or career path.
One thing I would have improved upon would be to keep better track of the resources and skills I learned. I should have created a personal toolbox where I kept a list of websites, skills, practices, ideas, etc… that I could refer to when I need to. I found that I was excited to learn knew things, but if I didn’t practice them or use them in my daily work, I forgot them.
I don’t feel I had any real gaps in my degree program. I was specific with the courses I chose within the program and purposely selected ones that I knew would provide me with the most benefit based on my career goals. The only gap, or something that I was lacking, was my own fault and that would have been to utilize my professors and classmates more to solicit ways to stay current in this field after I graduate. Such as what kinds of organizations or websites (graphic design, writing, visual communications, professional development) do other people know about that would be good to bookmark and check in with frequently to keep up on what’s new. To address this goal, I will go back and create the toolbox I mentioned above and do some extensive research to find the resources that will help me continue to be an innovating professional.
I am honored to be a graduate of Arizona State University, and look forward to representing myself and ASU with pride that is worthy of the 21st century global and digital leader I achieve to become.
