Initiatives

In 2020-2021, the committee worked tirelessly with Dr. Landes to integrate an all-gender bathroom in the School of Music. This bathroom can be found past the Office for the School of Music in the East Building by the elevator.

The QI Branch crafted an Inclusive Language Guide to share with faculty staff as a resource for identifying exclusionary language practices in order to adapt to inclusive language use in rehearsals, classes, and performances. This work was spearheaded by Taryn Landis, Brianna McClure, Bruno Streck Rodrigues, Emily Flathers, and Madison Archer. The document which was crafted in spring of 2021 was passed on to the faculty DEI committee this fall (2021). It is in the process of being shared with the full faculty and can be found on this site soon.

In Spring of 2021, IDEA premiered the "Mosaic: Highlighting Diversity in the Arts" performance. This event highlighted diversity in the School of Music, Dance, & Theatre at Arizona State University not only through BIPOC and queer students and faculty, but also through having any student or faculty showcase BIPOC and queer composers, playwrights, creators, and/or other creators. This performance ensurde non-BIPOC and non-queer students and faculty could be involved as well and not excluded. We hope you enjoy the show!
