Laser Cutter

Please see below for guidelines regarding our Laser Cutter:

When coming to use the laser cutter, you need to bring your Adobe Illustrator files, ideally on a thumb drive, though if necessary you can access them from a web storage system (e.g. Google Drive, Dropbox, etc).

The MOST important part of Laser Cutting is making sure that your files are in the correct format. Virtually any time people struggle with laser cutting is because their files are not formatted correctly.

Size:

Our laser cutter can accommodate cutting maximum dimensions of 32"x18" so please make sure to scale accordingly

File Type:

Our laser cutter uses Adobe Illustrator. Illustrator plays best with .ai file types or .svg file types.

Color Coding:

For layout, our laser cutter uses the following Hex color codes:

Cut (Vector line) = FF0000

Etch (Raster Fill) = 000000

Etch (Vector Line) = 0000FF

(Using any other colors may result in poor or incomplete cutting/etching)

Design:

All lines are 0.01pt

Material:

We primarily use cardboard and 1/8" plywood and can also do smaller stuff in acrylic or delrin (all of which we stock). We are unable to cut metal (it's only a 75 watt laser). If you would like to cut/etch other materials you would need to supply them. (Please check with an attendant to confirm that our air filter can handle it.)
