The Connected Academics program at ASU is pleased to invite you to a valuable opportunity to engage with William Deresiewicz on Thursday, March 27. This is a virtual event on Zoom (Register today).
In his talk, "From Specialization to Generalism: Transitioning from Academia to a Career in Writing and Publishing," Deresiewicz will share his insights on transitioning out of academia and the world of writing and publishing, its current opportunities and challenges. He will also discuss writing for a general audience on a craft level: What are the differences between academic writing and the kind of writing you need to do to be successful as someone writing for a general audience?
Deresiewicz is an award-winning essayist and critic and the author of five books including the New York Times bestseller Excellent Sheep. He has written over 300 essays and reviews for publications including The New York Times, The Atlantic, and Harper's, has spoken at over 170 educational and other venues, and has appeared on The Colbert Report, Here & Now, The New Yorker Radio Hour, and many other outlets. He received his PhD in English from Columbia and taught for 10 years on the faculty at Yale before becoming a full-time writer.
