Teaching Philosophy

"My approach toward teaching and learning involves the same approach toward my career and all that I strive for: do your best.  I have had the opportunity to influence many students over the years from college freshman to adult learners.  The classroom experience, whether face-to-face or online, is optimized when students engage with content as well as other learners.  Discussion, group presentations and interactive exercises allows students to think through material, share experiences, develop communication skills, and be mindful of and learn from each other’s perspectives.  These skills are important for both academic success as well as the work environment.

I am a skilled presenter of many years and I work hard to make topics understood, relevant and practical in many contexts whether the university classroom or corporate training room.  I am mindful of best practices and continuous improvement of teaching skills.  I find as with any task or project, clear goals and a plan for how I want to achieve those goals are a must.  Not only should students learn relevant information, hopefully, they will also be inspired toward further study and appreciation for the subject.  I strive to cultivate an open learning environment and encourage students to obtain the most from their education.

No one should take for granted the opportunity to pursue higher education and lifelong learning.  It is my goal as an educator to use my experience, education and interests to help create effective learners and leaders.  With this in mind, I strive to cultivate a high quality, intellectually stimulating and challenging learning experience."
