Dance On!

Our goal was the creation of an application that aids in movement correction and can teach anyone how to dance regardless of their skill set. The engineering team’s minimal viable product was a product that teaches individuals how to dance to the “YMCA Choreography”. We created the program accessible via webcam and uses the open-source Media Pipe ML Pose solution to read the user’s movement using 33 pose landmarks, and titled it: DanceOn!

Affective Computing for Emotion Speech Detection

We create machine-learning-based tools to assist with our project sponsor's dissertation research on mechanisms behind the "Gleam-Glum Effect". We use random forests to predict the emotion displayed in speech, and whether a speaker is saying a word with the "ee" or "uh" vowel sound. We then write a program to scrape "real-world" speech from YouTube videos to verify that our results generalize beyond speech recorded in the lab. In a future experiment, our project sponsor will have participants rate the positive affect of speakers, and we will see if their ratings predict the "ee" vs "uh" classifications made by the random forest model.

Queue DJ (QDJ) is a social media, music streaming website where users can join a “room” centered around a music genre and listen to songs being played live to users in the room. Users can join a queue and play a song of their choosing from Spotify. Other users can comment on the song, praise it, or vote to skip the current track to ensure appropriate music is being played according to the theme of the room.

Dancer iOS App

Dance teachers and students currently rely on text messages and social media to sign up for and list classes. This lack of structure and automation means that dance teachers spend a great deal of time doing administrative work instead of focusing on what they want to do: teach dance classes. The goal of our project is to create an iOS app that provides dancers with a single platform that will handle everything in the process of scheduling a dance class.

Shortest Path in Dynamic Traffic Simulation

In this project, we undertake and complete the following three tasks: (1) generate a new supervised learning dataset containing hourly traffic volume for 300+ stations in Manhattan, NYC; (2) perform exhaustive hyperparameter tuning on several machine learning (ML) models to find the best predictors of traffic volume; (3) develop a web app that allows users to visualize how each model predicts traffic volume for each road segment in the Manhattan grid.
