Sanghamitra is a graduate student from the North-East frontier region of India. Her research brings together medical anthropology, science and technology studies, and Dalit and Adivasi studies. Her doctoral project investigates the emerging sociotechnical and biocapital assemblages around rare genetic conditions like sickle cell disease in India, with a symmetrical focus on public health policies and subjective experiences of affliction. Her broader theoretical approach explores the different trajectories that biomedicine traces in its implementation in sites across the world, and how such implementations are imbricated with configurations of power, capital and agency. Sanghamitra is deeply invested in interrogating the epistemic constructions of borders/borderlands, and seeks to understand through her research how certain territories/ontologies/bodies come to be constructed as borderline in political as well as cultural representations.
