10-Step Process

  1. Figure out the boundaries of the organization to be assessed
    • Doesn't apply to us because we don't really have different departments yet. (Except for Aubrey from HR)
  2. Champions for each area
    • Way cooler name for those of you involved
  3. Decide format & scope for self-assessment
    • What exactly we are going to assess
  4. Senior leaders and champions (here you are again) prepare Organizational Profile for submission
    • Organizational profile describes the organization and it's challenges & environment
    • Common understanding of what is important
    • System for improvement, strategic challenges
    • Develop & implement an improvement plan
  5. Practice self-assessment with champions (Did I mention how important you are in this?)
    • Use Item 1.1 Criteria for Performance Excellence (found here on page 7)
    • Spot check to see if we are meeting our goals and staying on track
  6. Champions select category teams (the power of choice!)
    • 3-5 enthusiastic team members (also champions, we wanted to call them warriors but Aubrey from HR nixed it) can be an employee from any level. Even the night security guy Kyle.
    • May be someone from outside the organization - we already chose "The Mastermind," what's done is done.
    • Read the criteria, gather data, write an analysis
    • Explain how approaches should be used throughout the organization
  7. Share findings among teams, strengths & weaknesses
  8. Prioritize key strengths and areas to improve
  9. Develop and implement action plan in order to improve those areas found in step 8
    • Who will lead each step, what is to be accomplished, progress dates, how progress will be measured
  10. Evaluate and improve your self-assessment and action process
