As the Section Leader for the ASU 101 class, your role is to:
Help facilitate the course.
Communicate with students via Yellowdig.
Post in Yellowdig at least once per week.
Regularly (at least 4-5 times per week) log into Yellowdig and connect with students.
Grade any assignment that earns full credit (more information below).

The ASU 101 course is hosted through Canvas. If you are not familiar with Canvas, please review the Canvas instructor guide.
You will need access to a computer or technology advice that allows you to easily navigate between tabs.
We recommend using Google Chrome.
The ASU 101 course uses Yellowdig to facilitate class discussions. More information on Yellowdig is below.
Students do not need to purchase any external technology for this class.
Section Leaders will not:
You will not request or set up your Canvas course. The EdPlus team will set the course up for you, and you will be notified when the course is ready. The course will be ready at least 3 business days before the start of the session.
You will not need to adjust any due dates, assignments, or materials. Everything will be set up for you.
You will not set up Yellowdig. The community will be set. Please do not attempt to adjust the point structure or the due dates.
Section Leaders will:
Add their information to the class Syllabus
Add their information to the "Meet your Instructors" page.
Create an introductory post in Yellowdig.
All content in Canvas is organized into Modules. If you are not familiar with Modules, please review the Canvas instructor guide.
This course has 8 total Modules. The first Module in Canvas will remain unpublished as this section contains reminders for instructors and section leaders. Do not publish this Module.
Depending on the course you are facilitating, your course will either start with a "Getting Started" Module or will start at "Module 1". This is the first published Module.
All Modules have learning materials and assignments. Some assignments will be autograded; more information below.
Each week, we have a list of weekly reminders for Section Leaders. Please review your weekly reminders by navigating to the ASU 101 homepage and clicking the name of the college that you are facilitating for. You can also view your welcome email.

Each week, Section Leaders will do the following in Canvas:
Access Yellowdig through Canvas. Please do not bookmark the Yellowdig URL. Bookmark the link in Canvas (more information provided in your welcome email).
Grade any assignment that earns full credit. (more information below).

Section Leaders will only grade assignments that earn full credit. Any other assignment will be graded by the instructor.
Not all assignments need a grade entered.
You will not enter a grade for Yellowdig; this is automatically calculated in Canvas.

Each week, Section Leaders will do the following in Yellowdig:
Create at least one Yellowdig post (templates are available in the Section Leader timeline).
Engage with students in Yellowdig at least four times per week.
Check Yellowdig posts.
Follow up on Yellowdig posts as needed.
If EdPlus reaches out regarding any concerning messages, it is the instructor's responsibility to follow up.
The Section Leader is essentially a TA for the ASU 101 course. Instructors are the primary point of contact for the course and will do the following:
Post Announcements in Canvas.
Communicate with students who are not participating or who are failing the ASU 101 class.
Ensure that students who have accommodations through SAILS have adequate support for the class.
Oversee the course policies.
Regularly (at least twice per week) log into Yellowdig and connect with students.
Grade any assignments that the Section Leader cannot grade.
Grade any assignments that are submitted late, after the due date.
You will receive a welcome email with additional information about your ASU 101 class.

The Instructor is responsible for ensuring all student accommodations are fulfilled.
Determines if extensions or additional time will be provided.
Send students reminders when they are failing the class.
Post announcements in Canvas.
Does not post weekly in Yellowdig, but can if they choose.
Checks Yellowdig 2-3 times per week.
Grades assignments that do not earn full credit.
Grades assignments that are submitted after the deadline.
Section Leaders
Section Leaders are the secondary point of contact.
Contact information is not displayed in My ASU and Class Search.
Does not submit final grades.
Does not manage student communication.
Follows up with students within 48 business hours.
If students reach out for extensions, the Section Leader will contact the instructor. The Section Leader does not make the decision.
Forward any posts or communication to the instructor from students who are struggling or post anything of concern. Follow up as needed.
The Section Leader is not responsible for ensuring all student accommodations are fulfilled. They will contact the instructor as needed.
Does not determine if extensions or additional time will be provided.
Does not send reminders to students who are failing the course.
Does not post Announcements in Canvas.
Posts at least once per week in Yellowdig.
Checks Yellowdig 4-5 times per week.
Grades assignments that earn full credit only.
Does not grade assignments submitted after the deadline.
