The Canvas Learning Management System is a cloud-based software program that allows teachers to provide engaging online experiences for students. Teachers are able to input all of their course content into Canvas and provide opportunities for you to interact with the material through content pages, videos, discussion boards, and quizzes. With Canvas, you have access to the class materials 24/7 and can work when it is convenient for you to do so.

As mentioned above, when you accessed the home page of this orientation course, your introduction to Canvas began. During your ASU Prep Digital high school experience, you will use Canvas to access all of your coursework, interact with your teacher and classmates, plan out your week using the calendar feature, submit assignments, and take assessments (quizzes and tests). Canvas is easy to navigate, and once you have a little experience working in it, you will be able to easily use all of its features to support your learning.Â
Canvas Dashboard
Once you have logged into Canvas, you are immediately taken to your "Dashboard." The Dashboard provides a summary of all of the courses in which you are actively participating. In the example below on the left, you will note that this student is currently enrolled in six courses. On the right, the student is only enrolled in New Student Orientation. Your dashboard likely looks very similar to one of those photos.
Canvas Dashboard Menu
To the left of the Dashboard is a menu of navigation options. Each option has a particular function which is described in the diagram below.
Navigate to your Dashboard now and take a moment to explore these different menu features. Later, you will learn how to create specific settings and notification preferences in your account as well as upload a profile picture.
