"Let's Play the Lottery" (w/Teacher Example) is a fun way to introduce students to the concepts of Probability & Expected Value. It can be used as a simple, practical "first look" at probability (scratch tickets), but can also be expanded to include problems that incorporate Combinations & Permutations (Powerball).
New for the 2024-25 school year, we'll be using these "Hook Lessons" for a Probability Introduction and Combinations & Permutations. We'll also suggest that teachers print out a poster-sized copy of the "Menu of Covariaton" and post it in the front of their classrooms.
