What is a dog shelter and what do they do?
An animal shelter or pound is a place where stray, lost, abandoned or hurt animals, mostly dogs and cats are given a home. Statistics show that approximately 7.6 million animals enter animal shelters in Mexico every year. The problem of stray dogs in Puerto Vallarta has gotten better over the years; this in thanks to expat groups working with locals to set up spay and neuter clinics, promoting adoption of puppies and kittens and aging pets.
