Early Completion Option
Purpose:
Early Completion Option, a part of Senate Bill 57, allows exceptional and experienced individuals to apply to complete a Commission approved professional Induction program at a faster pace, meaning they would be able to complete the two-year program in one more intensive year. Participants who qualify for and choose the early completion option must complete all of the program requirements in one school year, including portfolios of evidence for all induction standards, meetings with mentor teachers, and all other requirements listed below.
Eligibility:
Preliminary multiple or single subject teaching credential, or level I or preliminary education specialist credential authorizing induction
Offer of employment from an Aspire Public School
Must be starting your first year of induction
Experience:
Candidate must have a minimum of 2 years prior teaching experience as the teacher of record in a K-12 teaching assignment. Experience during a CTC-Approved Intern Program (including Teach for America) is not included - the minimum 2 years prior teaching experience can be met through public school teaching either authorized on a CA preliminary teaching credential or authorized in a different state; or through private school teaching experience.
Candidate must submit performance evaluations for these prior years of teaching, which note strengths and areas of continued growth.
Candidate must submit two completed School/District Administrator recommendations for ECO from a principal, coach or other administrator attesting to appropriateness for the Early Completion Option.
Exceptional Status:
Candidate must submit evidence of work that substantiates experience and exceptionalism. The portfolio should include evidence of a rigorous lesson plan cycle including (but not limited to):
A complete lesson plan which exhibits clear use of data to support needs specific to English Language Learners and Special Education students
Analysis of student work from that (or a similar) lesson
Teacher reflection of the lesson – what worked well/ how did your teaching change following the lesson, etc.
Candidates will submit their application and supporting documents for the ECO program to Credential Services prior to the start of their induction cohort. If hired after the start of the cohort, application, must be submitted within 30 days of employment offer.
Application must be accompanied by required documents showing experience and evidence showing exceptional status (see above). Incomplete applications cannot be considered.
Participating Teachers accepted into ECO must submit an action plan approved by their assigned mentor which explains how they will complete all the cycles and collect all necessary evidence from both the Year 1 and Year 2 induction programs by the end of their cohort's Year 1 cycle (typically by the first of May).
Participating Teachers in the ECO program will submit and review their portfolio with their mentor in February to ensure that sufficient progress has been made.
The final portfolio will be due on the same date as other participating teachers in Aspire’s Induction Program.
Completion:
Successful early completion means the candidate has demonstrated, through their portfolio, the knowledge and skills required of all other teachers participating in Aspire’s two-year Induction Program.
Missing due dates or insufficient progress may cause the withdrawal of the ECO approval. Participating teachers are responsible for tracking and meeting due dates, and for making sufficient progress.
ECO candidates who do not meet the requirements will be returned to the full two-year Induction Program without penalty.
2025-2026 ECO Applications are Due By: October 10 , 2025
