Innovation starts with a question.
Innovation starts with a question.
Innovation Projects allow participating students to explore a topic that genuinely matters to them. Over the course of the school year, students will develop a meaningful question, investigate it deeply, create or develop something connected to their learning, and ultimately share their work with others.
The goal is not simply to complete a project. It is to think deeply, take intellectual risk, develop independence, and grow through the process.
*Innovation Projects are part of Aspen Ridge's programming for formally identified Gifted & Talented and Program & Monitor Students*
Students and families are encouraged to reference the handbook throughout the year.

The Innovation Showcase is a celebration of learning, not a display of finished products.
The Innovation Showcase is a celebration of learning, not a display of finished products.
Students will have the opportunity to share:
Their question -- What did I want to understand?
Their Process -- How did my thinking and work develop?
Their Learning -- What did I discover?
Their Creation -- What did I make, design, propose, test, or develop?
Their Growth -- What challenged me, changed my thinking, or helped me grow?
Their Impact -- Why does this learning matter?
The goal is not perfection.
The goal is meaningful learning, growth, and the ability to communicate the journey.

Innovation Project Expectations
Students are expected to:
Attend scheduled project check-ins
Arrive prepared to discuss their progress
Complete research and project work between meetings
Use feedback to revise and strengthen their work
Ask for help when they encounter challenges
Maintain evidence of their process and learning
Complete the project in time to participate in the Innovation Showcase
Participation in the Innovation Showcase is earned through engagement in the project process.
Students who do not meaningfully engage in and complete the required components of the Innovation Project process will not participate.
For formally identified gifted students, the Innovation Project may also connect to goals within the student's Advanced Learning Plan (ALP), providing an authentic opportunity to demonstrate growth toward individual learning goals.

Getting stuck is part of the process.
Getting stuck is part of the process.
Strong projects rarely move in a perfectly straight line. Questions change, ideas don't always work, and research sometimes creates more questions than answers.
When that happens:
Pause --> Reflect --> Ask --> Adjust --> Keep Going
Students should bring challenges to their scheduled check-ins or request a brief additional check-in when support is needed.
