Cyanotype is a photographic process developed in the mid-19th century, that produces a vivid cyan-blue print when the photosensitive solution of two chemicals (ferric ammonium citrate and potassium ferricyanide) is exposed to UV light.
We explored this process by making photograms – a photographic image made without a camera.
Each teen carefully composed an image of found objects or stencils, then exposed the paper to sunlight.
A small group met in Millennium Park to make cyanotypes together, and then we continued to explore this process at home.
