Frequently Asked Questions
Question: I have to cancel the lesson because my child is sick.
Answer: Please call the music teacher directly 24 hours in advance or ASAP so the teacher knows. Remember, music teachers often come out to ASM to teach 1 student per day. We want to avoid having them come out to ASM for nothing. We want to avoid wasting their time and money on transportation if possible.
Question: My child was asked by a classroom teacher to stay after school today for help. The private lesson teacher said they will charge me for the lesson because I didn't notify them 24 hours in advance. What do I do?
Answer: It is better to arrange a different day with the classroom teacher to meet after school. Explain to them that your child has a private lesson and it would be better the next day.
Question: My child's private teacher called to notify me that his/her lesson has been canceled. Will I be refunded the money for the lesson?
Answer: Yes, music teachers will set up a time to reschedule the missed lesson or refund the money.
Question: I only notified the private teacher an hour before my child's lesson that s/he could not come to the lesson. The private teacher wants to be paid for the missed lesson because they were not notified with enough time to avoid driving to ASM. Do I have to pay for the lesson?
Answer: Yes, the music teacher should be compensated unless there was some extenuating circumstance. It is important that students and parents keep the private teacher informed of special events that might necessitate canceling or rescheduling a lesson. Once again, we want to avoid having the private teacher come to ASM for no reason.
Question: My child had to go to the dentist and had to miss their lesson. I notified the private teacher 24 hours in advance. Will my child be able to make up the lesson on another day?
Answer: You will need to ask the private teacher if there is another day to make up the lesson. If not, you may have to wait until next week at the regularly scheduled time and day. You will not be charged for missing the lesson with the advanced notice.
