Refusing to Cooperate
If either party, but especially the member interpreter, refuses to cooperate or follow through with any part of the process, ASLIA does not have the authority to compel them to be involved.
Facilitators will attempt to create a non-confrontational, supportive, collaborative space for the parties to share their concerns and perspectives, however if they refuse to cooperate, ASLIA is not able to impose any consequences. Facilitators will note such details as part of their recording duties.
ASLIA can consider other possible actions to respond to the complainant’s concerns in general terms such as providing educational resources for the Deaf and interpreter community at large as a means to increase understanding and sensitivity to the issues brought forward.
