At ASHS we encourage all learners to:
select subjects that you are passionate about
grow your curiosity by experiment with a wide range of subjects
consider future subjects and possible pathways
extend on areas that you have a talent in
pick the subjects you want to study, not the ones that your friends are doing

ASHS has been delivering Level 1 differently since 2022.
Additionally, the NCEA Curriculum Change Package was formally introduced nationally in 2024 - Click here for all the details.
We recommend that you consider a broad foundation at Level 1.
If you wish to choose a course from another level, please discuss this at your enrolment interview.
You will need to select five SUBJECTS.
You will need to take Math and English. This is to ensure that you have access to the literacy and numeracy standards, required to pass NCEA at Level 2 and 3, in addition to the opportunity to complete literacy and numeracy co-requisite standards.
NOTE - the co-requisite standards may have been attempted in year 10, these are designed to assess competency at a level 4 and low level 5 of the New Zealand Curriculum.
Year 11 English and Maths are designed to meet Level 6 of the New Zealand curriculum.
Talk to your tutor about your choices.
If you are considering a particular pathway beyond school, your tutor and/or the Careers counsellor can advise you on which subjects would best meet your needs.
