Notion of population stability, and the measures of population stability
Stabilizing extinction prone population through external perturbation
Reading material: This is a recent and concise review on the research advances on Population Dynamics using Drosophila as a model system.
I have hurried towards the end of the class. Please go through the following portion of this article to complete the story we started.
Section 7. Stabilizing small populations (up to the end of Section 7.1 i.e. Page 18 to Page Page 21)
Reading material (optional): This is the article, where Hassel et al. (1976) showed that dynamics of most of the natural populations are simple and not chaotic.
Reading material (optional): In contrast to Hassel et al. (1976), in this article Turchin and Taylor (1992) claim that "the complete spectrum of dynamical behaviors, ranging from exponential stability to chaos, is likely to be found among natural populations."
