The Undergraduate Writing Programme at Ashoka University is one of the first writing and critical thinking programmes of its kind in the country. It is our understanding that an education in the liberal arts is built upon the foundation of analytical thinking communicated through clear and persuasive writing. Our programme, developed bottom-up for the Indian context, is designed to cultivate rigorous practices of reading and writing in first-year students.
Our flagship course, Introduction to Critical Thinking, is taught through small, seminar-style classes that aim to sharpen and rehearse habits that shape a critical mind – asking questions, offering interpretations, making connections, taking positions, admitting uncertainty. The ICT offers time and space to students to alter their relationship with writing, and allows them to consider what it means to enter a knowledge community.
