Percussion Ensemble

(12-19 years)

The Asheville Symphony Youth Percussion Ensemble consists of large ensemble and smaller chamber groups. These ensembles perform a variety of literature thus providing the students with a comprehensive learning and performing experience.

While participation in the Concert Orchestra and Youth Philharmonic are separate and distinct, the percussion ensemble is the “laboratory” in which skills are learned and “applied.” Members of the percussion section are evaluated and selected for participation in the Concert Orchestra, Youth Philharmonic, and the Percussion Ensemble as determined by the Director of Percussion.

In order to audition for the ASYO Percussion Program, we are utilizing the NCBA All-State Honors Band Audition Requirements.

In order to audition for the ASYO Percussion Ensembles, we will use a combination of the following:

• Concert Orchestra and Youth Philharmonic audition requirements

*Note - percussion are required to audition on snare, mallets, and timpani

• Selection of Rudiments (refer to  https://www.pas.org/resources/rudiments) 

• Additional repertoire that demonstrates your abilities on snare, mallets (2 or 4), and timpani (3 or 4 drum etude)
