Welcome, my name is Emily Nelson and I am a 1st grade teacher at APS. This is my 5th year teaching and 5th year here at Ashby! I'm so excited to start this year with you at Ashby. I received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education from Saint Cloud State University and a Masters Degree in Learning Design and Technology from St. Mary's University. This summer I have been busy spending time with my family, watching our little girls grow, traveling, spending the weekends at the lake and race track. My why?
My why?
The best teacher I ever had was my 3rd grade teacher, Mrs. Swanson. She put each student first before academics, made sure we were all taken care of and then worried about academics. Even many years later I remember her kindness and the impact that had on me at a young age. Now as a teacher I hope I can be just a Mrs. Swanson to each of my students. A teacher that has the direct opportunity to make a difference, to change the future. I will set high goals as a teacher and do my best to show each and every student that these goals are within their reach. I will expect every one of my students to want to learn and more importantly to understand. I want to make my students wonder; make them question; make them think critically; make them write; make them read.
