ASFM offers a robust professional learning program to ensure that we are able to grow our staff and maintain excellence in learning for our students. The professional learning program is fully funded from tuition so it is our fundamental responsibility to ensure that the program actively contributes to the success of our students. The ASFM professional learning program is designed to support educators in developing their professional practice in areas aligned with the strategic priorities of the school and with industry best practices. ASFM is proud to offer our staff a challenging and supportive work environment where all of us grow and learn together.

Continuous PD Teacher Benefit Guidelines 2025-2026 (pending updates)
This year, teachers in K-3 have been intentionally working with students in developing phonological awareness and decoding skills to support their learning in reading. In grades 4-5, teachers are studying words and building morphological awareness to support reading and spelling. We have worked alongside two consultants from Erin Kent Consulting, Miles Madison and Natasha Hays this year to learn, and refine our practice in supporting learners.
This year we had the pleasure of engaging with Myron in reflecting on the role of assessment in learning, especially in light of the continuous growth and impact of GenAI. Teachers had the opportunity to meet by departments and discuss how we create assessment that prioritize skills that allow for communication, collaboration and problem solving - while digging into how we teach them to ethically and responsibily use GenAI in their learning journey.
Our Socials teachers joined our English and Spanish teachers this year in aligning practice to support students in small group instruction. They have been learning from each other during lab sites, while modeling the strategy. Recently, they also collaborated with Spanish and spent time analyzing the alignment of skills - and how to work in a co-curricular way to reinforce the development of writing and reading skills.
