At ASFM, we are committed to the success of all learners. As a PLC school, we meet regularly to provide clarity in what we want students to know and be able to do. Through assessment of learning, we measure each student’s progress and evaluate whether they can demonstrate what we want them to know and do.
At ASFM, we have selected essential standards to determine what each student needs in learning in order to be successful at the next grade level. These essential standards are unpacked into learning level outcomes (LLOs) that are paced throughout the school year to support a student in meeting the grade level expectations. We provide clarity to students, by outlining success criteria for each of the learning level outcomes, so that students can determine whether their evidence demonstrates they have mastered the learning.
At ASFM, our units are built by bundling essential and supporting standards. Our units are paced by ordering the LLOs in a sequential order to see the growth in complexity as students progress toward making connections in learning and/or understanding conceptually. As a student progressing through the LLOs, they demonstrate evidence of learning through formative assessment. At the summary of the unit or at times, within a unit, at the end of a chunk of learning, students use their learning summatively to make connections and show conceptual understanding in their evidence.
At ASFM, we believe that formative evidence of learning should be gathered and analyzed collaboratively to determine the next steps for each student. When we respond, we intervene to support and/or extend learning.
