11th Grade Timeline (check off the items you have completed)
Fall Semester
__ Check to see that you are scheduled for the correct courses.
__ Complete AP Exam Registration
__ Define testing timeline for ACT or SAT - Recommended: December 2024 or March 2025
__ Begin attending college visits during lunch, PLT, or evenings
__ Attend College Fair and learn about the different colleges and universities.
__ Visit colleges/universities websites and sign up for virtual visits and webinars
__ Familiarize yourself with university types - large/small, liberal arts vs. preprofessional, etc.
__ Research colleges/universities in Maia Learning
__ Add colleges to Considering List in Maia Learning
__ Do your best on your assessments in your current courses and keep your GPA up
__ Make plans for a productive summer between junior and senior year - summer program, internship, community service, online classes, etc.
__ Begin filling out MaiaLearning Essay Development tool to explore potential personal essay topics
__ Update your working resume / log folder in Maia Learning
__ Explore career opportunities using Maia Learning and begin to narrow down majors
Spring Semester
__ Check your GPA from first semester and create action plan for this semester
__ Fill out your Junior College Meeting Survey on Maia Learning
__ Meet with your counselor for Junior College Meeting
__ Submit applications for summer programs (deadlines by January or February)
__ Start working on all College Prep Assignments (due late August) on MaiaLearning. This will prepare you to have most application components done before senior year/application time
__ Utilize College Search Resources in Maia assignments and add three colleges to Colleges I’m Considering list
__ Begin writing your personal essays for applications, scholarships, etc.
__ Decide on courses for your senior year and consider AP coursework
__ Research universities testing requirements. If required, consider a preparation course, or study guides for practice before the exam
__ Research universities demonstrated interest and continue attending webinars, visiting tables during ASFM visits, etc.
__ Check that you are on track with your graduation requirements
__ Ask for verification of community service and keep up with your hours
Before Summer Break
__ Determine 1-2 colleges for your Reach list, your Fit list, and your Insurance list
__ Ask 2 teachers for letters of recommendation
__ Attend College Prep Bootcamp and College Essay Workshop sessions
__ Talk to your counselor to verify if your personal essay topic is a good one so you can work on it during the summer
During the Summer
__ Complete your all your College Prep Assignments before August 26th
__ If testing is required for the schools you plan to apply, register to take the ACT and/or SAT during the summer. Remember to select the colleges to receive your scores during registration
__ Check out websites and Maia Learning for information about applications for financial aid, admissions requirements, and deadlines.
__ If possible, virtually visit the colleges that most interest you
__ Work on college admission essays
__ Check your portfolio and make sure you have your records in order with required testing, essays, resume, and record of your volunteer work
__ Get a calendar and begin to write down your schedule of college application planning activities
__ Begin to research scholarship opportunities on web sites
