Maybe your jacaranda just germinated.
Maybe the first jacaranda leaves are growing.
Maybe your cotyledon (seed leaf) is just opening.
Maybe you have two jacaranda seedlings.
Maybe the leaves are about to start growing.
Maybe your seedling has several jacaranda leaves.
Your seedling will need to stay in its original pot (biodegradable pot or tin can) until it grows to be about 8-10 cm tall (measuring from the soil up).
Your seedling needs some sun and air to keep growing. You can keep your seedling outside (in its original pot) in a spot where it can get some sun but will also be protected from strong wind and rain.
Your seedling needs water! Check on it every day and as soon as you notice the soil getting dry water your seedling.
Once your seedling is 8-10 cm tall it will be ready to be planted in a larger pot. It is still not ready to be planted in the ground.
Now that your seedling is 8-10 cm tall it needs a bigger pot to keep growing.
If your seedling is in a biodegradable pot, carefully break off the bottom of the pot and plant it with more soil in a larger pot.
Your seedling will still need sun, air, and water to keep growing. Place the seedling, in its larger pot, somewhere where it can get sun and air but will not be damaged by the heavy rain, wind, and hail which characterize Guadalajara's rainy season. Check the seedling daily and as soon as the soil seems dry, water it.
Your seedling will need to stay in the larger pot until it grows to be about 40 cm tall - a little more than a ruler tall.
Once your jacaranda is about 40cm tall it is ready to be planted in the ground.
Research where to best plant your jacaranda. Jacaranda trees grow expansively, therefore you want to plant it in a spot where it will have room to grown.
Share any pictures you have of your jacaranda with EC. Our students would love to see how the trees they planted are growing! Send pictures to the EC whatsapp: 3336482421
