Sustainability data

As we move toward sustainability in everything we do we are now defining the type of data that would inform our decisions. The categories below have been recently determined and we are currently compiling the appropriate information to share with interested community members. As we generate the documents that will house the data you will find them shown below. Visit often!

Important notes regarding carbon emissions and water data:

• These graphs were created from the total number of kWh (for electricity) and IG (for water) used over the course of each school year. They do not take into account any school expansions, new infrastructure, and changes to systems in the school. We attempted to make the graphs more accurate by calculating the kWh and IG per student, to more accurately represent the numbers as the school increased in size. However, we are working on adjusting the baseline data to accurately represent the changes to the school. For now here are a list of things to take into account when looking at the data:
  • 2014: heaters were installed into the pools (needed for student’s health, however higher energy usage for campus)
  • 2014: 5 additional split units 19 tons were installed in the school pump room.
  • 2014: field lighting was adjusted for light savings
  • 2014: broadcasting and studio equipment added
  • 2016: additional air handling units added in the art studio and cafeteria
  • 2017: additional power and water needed for fans/’misters’ in playgrounds
  • 2017: plastic water bottles eliminated from ASD campus (less plastic pollution to the environment!) however, ASD consumption of water increased, as all students used water for ASD fountains.
• ASD facilities also participates in a cost-sharing initiative. This means that the company which provides the ASD campus with its infrastructure finds ways to cut down energy and water usage, which lowers the money spent on these things. The difference made from investing in these reducing technologies is shared equally between the provider and ASD, rewarding both for these sustainable actions. This suggest innovation in sustainability which will continue at ASD.
