Shee Lab focuses on understanding how genome instability arises and how it contributes to the origin and progression of cancer. Students will explore the molecular mechanisms that cause DNA damage, improper repair, and chromosomal rearrangements—key processes that drive tumor development.
Using modern genome engineering tools, including CRISPR-based technologies, we aim to model these genomic changes in cells, study how they disrupt normal gene regulation, and identify critical vulnerabilities in cancer cells. Ultimately, this research seeks to translate fundamental discoveries into targeted gene-therapy strategies that can precisely correct or disable disease-causing genetic alterations.
Through this work, students will gain hands-on experience in molecular biology, genome editing, and data analysis while contributing to research with direct relevance to cancer biology and precision medicine.
