SCHOOL COUNSELORS
Hanshew HAWKS will SOAR to Success with PBIS
Hanshew Middle School has officially become a PBIS school this year. PBIS stands for P ositive B ehavioral I nterventions and S upports. It is a research based framework for teaching and supporting positive behavior for all students. This schoolwide approach focuses on building a safe and positive environment in which all students can learn. Students will have clear and consistent expectations for behavior across all school settings that are being explicitly taught to them using a common language. Students will receive frequent praise for following these expectations and consistent responses when behavioral expectations are not met. This will help Hanshew be a safe learning environment that promotes academic success for all students.
Our school wide expectations are that our Hawks will SOAR . SOAR is an acronym standing for being S afe, O n-task, A ccountable, and R esponsible. We want our students to embody these expectations across all settings throughout the school day. In September we will be focusing on being Safe . This includes following adult directions, being appropriate with our bodies, words, and items, and learning schoolwide and classroom procedures.
Please help us encourage your HAWK to SOAR to Success!

Reminders for the beginning of the year:
Care Plans and Medication Authorizations must be completed every school year. https://www.asdk12.org/Page/7810 for all forms needed for medications to be given at school
Students should NOT be carrying routine medication (over the counter or prescription) on them or have them in their lockers. Medications are kept and given in the nursing office.
Students who self-carry emergency medications (Inhaler/Epi-pen) need to have a 24/25 care plan and self-carry agreement completed.
Welcome to the 24-25 School Year
My name is Ms. V and I am your new Librarian here at Hanshew. I have previously have worked as a Library Director, Public Services Librarian, and a teacher. I am excited to meet you and please visit the library anytime.
Students returning to ASD this year will KEEP their Chromebooks they had from last year. New students to Hanshew will be receiving chromebooks if they were not assigned one before.
The district will not provide extra chargers to students who forget or lose theirs, so please remind your student to keep track of their charger and device. I recommend charging devices at home to avoid losing or mixing up chargers with other students.
Library hours are 9:15am-4:15pm
