The AK-20041 Air Force Junior ROTC cadet corps was formally established at South Anchorage High School on 1 August 2004 by agreement between the Anchorage School District and the United States Air Force. Since its inception, our cadre of young professionals have consistently been recognized nationally and by the Air Education and Training Command with the Distinguished Unit Award. An accolade that directly ties to the level of commitment, dedication, and achievement your students have consistently exhibited.
The Mission of the SAHS "Wolverine" Group (AK-20041) is to assist cadets to strive to be role models in the Anchorage School District through school and community service. This Corps will provide them with guided leadership experiences and will allow the cadets to become knowledgeable citizens by providing experiences unlike any other high school class.
1. Cadet - Corps will earn a minimum 2.7 GPA. 40% of cadets will earn a 3.0 GPA or higher while 5% will achieve a 4.0 GPA. 80% of our AS1 cadets will earn a "B" in the AFJROTC course. Our corps Kitty Hawk Air Society will develop and offer subject specific, weekly availability schedule to cadets struggling in corps courses during the first quarter.
2. Cadet - 50% of cadets will earn the Academic Ribbon; 15% will earn the Dress and Appearance Ribbon; 95% will earn the Health and Wellness Ribbon; 20% will earn a bronze star or higher in the CFA; 35% will perform in a Color Guard/Saber Arch; 20% will earn the Color Guard Ribbon and/or the Saber Arch Ribbon.
3. School - Unit will retain 93% of all current cadets and 87% of our AS1 students. Cadets are committed to increase program enrollment by 3% to maintain unit viability for the Spring 2025 Personnel Status Report. Cadets will hold 2 recruitment events at feeder schools within the high school by May 2025. Cadets will rebuild the unit website and enhance online social media exposure.
4. School – The primary focus is the participation of AS-1 and AS-2 cadet population during the 2024-2025 school year. 20% of AS-1's and AS-2's will be trained in the 30 count maneuver; 30% of all cadets will compete for JROTC drill teams; 20% will commit to the Marksmanship Program for the year.
5. Community – AK-20041 cadets will accrue a minimum of 1,300 hours of JROTC sponsored community and school volunteer service; 45% of cadets will earn 10 hours of service; 20% of cadets will earn 20 hours of service; 15% of cadets will earn 30 hours of service or more; 15% will earn the AFJROTC Service Ribbon.
6. Community – AK-20041 will organize at least 12 community service events for the 2024-2025 school year. 50% of cadets will attend/serve in at least one Becca's Closet; 95% of cadets will attend at least one community service event; 75% will attend three or more community service events; 55% of cadets will attend six or more community service events.
