I have been teaching for 11 years, 10 of them at Bowman. I have taught 1st-4th grade neighborhood, but spent most of my time in 2nd grade. Bowman is near and dear to my heart and I feel blessed to have a foot in each program. My oldest son, Nathan (16), went through Bowman’s neighborhood program K-6. I have twins Asher & Wilder (7) who both go to Bowman. Wilder is in BOOP K/1 and Asher is currently in the K/1 Structured Learning Classroom.
When I am not working, my favorite things to do are spending time with my family outdoors or getting cozy for movie nights, working on house projects or doing woodwork in the garage. My family is big into football so in the fall, I spend a lot of my free time volunteering for South High Football to support my son’s team. In the summers, we like to take off on road trips and go camping. My husband is also a teacher, he teaches at the Alaska Native Cultural Charter School, so summers are our time to escape and show our kids all that Alaska has to offer.
A huge part of my life is having a child with special needs. I feel like that has made me a better version of myself, a better mother and a better teacher. It has opened my eyes to the challenges that many children face each day and how to be responsive to their needs and support families who are also navigating these challenges with their child.
