My name is Kristen Ryder and I am excited to be teaching your child 3rd grade math this school year! I am sure you are familiar with the Saxon curriculum, but here are a few reminders:
- We complete one lesson per day
- Each lesson has a homework component
- A test is given in class every 5 lessons
Supplies
Students are expected to come to math class each day prepared with their math folder, math journal, and homework.
Communication
You can expect a weekly email from me including the current homework assignments and test schedule as well as any concepts that can be reinforced at home. I will also use the Remind App to send quick reminders throughout the year. Please email me anytime with questions, comments, or concerns. I look forward to working with you and your child this school year.
Students will have homework on lesson days, but not necessarily on test days. Homework will typically consist of the "B" side of the lesson page and the "B" side of the fact practice page. Homework is due the day after it is assigned. A curriculum expectation of Saxon is that families check over the "B" side of both fact practice and homework before turning it in the next day.
Report cards will show an academic and an effort grade. The effort grade is made up solely of homework assignments. Tests are given after every five lessons starting after lesson 10. Each test has a fact component as well as a written assessment. Fact tests are worth 25 points each and tests are worth 100 points each. Tests cover cumulative material. Academic grades consist primarily of test grades.
